Standard Practice for Managing Sustainability in Dentistry, E3014, was approved in April 2015
In April 2015, a new Standard Practice for Managing Sustainability in Dentistry, E3014, was approved by ASTM International membership. A working group of recognized dental professionals and organizations, sustainability practitioners and standards experts under the leadership of Beverly Oviedo, pioneered this development. H K Allison Projects for Sustainability, ASTM International and TransReg, LLC. were contributors of this project.
The ASTM standard supports growth of sustainability practices in dentistry. It aims to help dentists and dental organizations adopt sustainable practices that reflect corporate social responsibility. The standard describes a management system that aligns social, environmental and economic decisions. Also, it provides a frame of reference and common vocabulary that can be used to communicate, plan and implement more sustainable dental practices without compromising safety and health.
April 2016, at ASTM Meeting Week in San Antonio, Texas, Beverly Oviedo received an award from ASTM International, for her leadership role in developing the Standard Practice for Managing Sustainability in Dentistry.
To build on this, the subcommittee of E60.80 is developing a second standard that will introduce specific practices in this area. Dental practices, schools, laboratories, manufacturers, dental students, and other interested parties are invited to join the development of the standard.
